Why do we have to eat a Seudah on Shavuos? Why is it forbidden to fast on Shavuos? We are like a Chasun at his Chasunah. We have to rejoice and show that we are happy to "become married to the Torah". Just like a Chusan is permitted to cry in anticipation of his chasunah, but he must eat and rejoice at the Chasunah, we have to enjoy the physical side of the Yom Tov too.
from a Shiur by Rabbi Wachsman about preparing for Shavuos
